Mary Alice completed her undergraduate work at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, where she received her B.S. degree in kinesiology. 

She received a Master of Science as a Physician Assistant at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

Mary Alice is the Georgia Rural PA of the Year for 2009.

She is also a certified paramedic.
