Congratulations to one of our own - Practice Administrator, Brooke McDowell! She's received a HUGE honor by being elected to the Georgia Medical Group Management Association (GMGMA) 2025-2026 Board of Officers.

McDowell says she's incredibly honored and humbled to join the GMGMA board, and for the opportunity to represent practice administrators across the state of Georgia. McDowell goes on to say that she's glad she can represent rural communities.

It was a beautiful morning for the Elbert County Colon Cancer Support Group's annual 5K/3K! We want to say a huge THANK YOU to Ms. Pam Allen for allowing The Medical Center of Elberton the opportunity to come by, talk about colon cancer and colonoscopies, and do a demonstration about the Cologuard Plus test.

The TMCE scholarship is awarded to two seniors who have intentions to go into the medical field and a GPA of 3.5 or greater. Congratulations!

The Medical Center of Elberton in partnership with Georgia Rural Health Innovation Center Mercer University School of Medicine donated 480 doses of Narcan to our first responders!

The Medical Center of Elberton proudly joins Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Mercer University School of Medicine, and the Georgia Rural Health Innovation Center in honoring the strength and bravery of kids facing illnesses and injuries on #CapeDayATL.

The Medical Center of Elberton was recently invited to speak on rural healthcare at Shiloh Baptist Church! Thank-you so much for the opportunity!

The Medical Center of Elberton was selected to participate in the Kids Alliance for Better Care (KidsABC), a collaboration of Mercer University School of Medicine, its Georgia Rural Health Innovation Center and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

A telehealth cart was delivered to the office to help assist with diagnostics and subspecialists consultations.

Soon, telehealth services — right here in the office — will allow children to receive specialized care without traveling away from their home county.

Jonathan Poon, MD has achieved the Degree of Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the national medical association representing nearly 127,600 family physicians, residents and medical students. Established in 1971, the AAFP Degree of Fellow recognizes family physicians who have distinguished themselves through service to family medicine and ongoing professional development. This year’s fellowship class brings the total number of AAFP Fellows to more than 18,000 nationwide. AAFP Fellowship entitles the physician to use the honorary designation, Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Criteria for receiving the AAFP Degree of Fellow consist of a minimum of six years of membership in the organization, extensive continuing medical education, participation in public service programs outside medical practice, conducting original research and serving as a teacher in family medicine. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Poon on this accomplishment!

March 30 is National Doctors' Day and usually we have a luncheon and a celebration for our doctors, but this year it is different. There is no time for Doctors to receive their well earned “pat on the back” due to the COVID-19 outbreak. So instead we ask that everyone stop and say a prayer for Doctors across the globe. Congratulations to Elbert Memorial Hospital on the grand opening of Elbert Memorial Hospital Clyde and Jean Adams Building! We are very proud of all the hard work that was put into this building! 

The physicians of The Medical Center are the recipients of a prestigious award from the Medical College of Georgia!

They received the 2018 Exemplary Teaching Award for Demonstrating Excellence in Medical Education. The awards are given out based on student evaluations, and the top 5% of faculty are recognized for their excellence.

We are so lucky to have great physicians in this community to serve our patients and wonderful leaders teaching the future doctors of America!

ECCHS sponsored a physical day for all Special Olympic Athletes with the help of Dr. Dan McAvoy, Lindsey G. Williams, Felecia Downer and Connie Andrews. Brewed Blessings Coffee Shop provided games and treats for the athletes. Elbert County Special Olympics competed in the Area 5 Basketball tournament, Bowling, and Track and Field. 
 

The Medical Center hosted a Health & Wellness Fair for the community on October 20, 2018. All the proceeds went to Connor Johnson.
